thedelman says “I’m currently reading ‘The Google Story’ and the only thing that that keeps jumping out at me, is their commitment to 20% time  spent on innovation; it has paid off too. Many of googles new services arrived from the 20% scheme, like Google news and froogle (now called google products). The scheme also includes positive feedback sessions where peers review each others ideas and get involved, there is also an ideas forum”

thedelman says” Interesting! I read an article (Airline launches women-only site) a couple of months back. It was about American airline dedicating part of their website only to women, the reason being that in USA they outnumber male counter parts online. I feel that this is a sign that the internet is moving in the right direction and that the user experience will improve as a consequence. 

Internal Email discussion – topic: The technology of OLPC’s hundred dollar laptop Matt May 21, the discussion was about a laptop being built only costing £100. The main point was the social impact for developing countries, just like the wind-up radio or mobile phone.

“Can it be seen in the same light as the wind-up radio or mobile phone (some villages in the 3rd world will have 1 communal radio/ phone that connects them to the rest of the country/ world)?”

thedelman says “one of the main complaints from people in less economically developing countries is the fact that they can’t help themselves, having to rely on help from others to survive.”

thedelman says “In the age of ‘sorry luv, i haven’t got the time’ Virgin have smartly organised their bundles in clear simple terms, so straight away you know what’s on offer. What would be interesting though, if there was an option (for the fussy guy who knows what he wants) where you can create your own bundles (with the aid of rich interaction, of course!), a sort of mix and match.

thedelman says ” The more i look at it the more i like it. The typography along with the increased use of screen has made a visual improvement, making it clearer and easier to read or skim. I don’t like the fact that the homepage feels like a very very long sheet of paper (which is ironic), personally, i would have wrapped up some of the lower level stuff (with the aid of rich interaction, again!), but then i suppose it comes down to a matter of opinion.

Dunners “20% Carbon After having a play around with Kayak I got thinking it would be a good idea to build a site around travel that allows people to see the carbon emitted for their trip and ways in which they could balance it out. There could be calculation tools and instant feedack to the user depending on which options were chosen, for example if they chose to go from London via Paris to Cyprus then the flight would be cheaper but may be a higher polluter than going straight there or the benefits of using the new A380 Airbus which is more fuel efficient…” May 2, 2007
